ABOUT US

JnD Woodcraft

We are a startup business looking to transform a life-long mix of professional and hobby woodcraft experience into a custom family furniture shop. Our focus is on creating elegant furniture using our unique, yet fully customizable designs. We work out of our family home in Clarendon Hills, IL, as we continue to look for an appropriate studio space for our shop.

Story

Joe (owner) started woodworking at five years old, helping his own dad build family homes for themselves and others in a small Ontario community. His first job was pulling nails from reclaimed lumber.

Throughout his youth, Joe took many construction jobs building and renovating homes around the town. Other side projects included cedar strip canoe building, Pennsylvania Dutch furniture reproduction, and constructing a tabernacle and altar for his Mom's home chapel.

After leaving home, Joe moved to Toronto and worked with Boris Balon Woodworking and Contracting for 3 years where he learned all of his commercial millwork and fabrication skills. Projects ranged from public schools and libraries, hotel lobbies and restaurants, to residential.

He moved on to college, earning degrees in mechanical engineering and eventually a PhD in Material Science. Along the way he continued to do minor home improvements on our house and other small projects. Many works from this era can be seen in under the "Legacy" category in the furniture section.

As the basement shop has been busy over the years, we recently decided to bring our son into the world of woodcraft and together Joe and Dan have been making new prototypes culminating in our first production piece, [Bedset02], after initially making [Bedset01], which was given to another family member. They are continuing to experiment with new builds in order to find their niche for a sustainable business.

Our Products

We make chairs, stools, tables, and bedroom furniture with drawers!

Our motto is not to compete with mass-produced home furnishings, but instead create unique designs with some art-deco themes. In working with the challenges of high-cost, quality hardwoods, our building techniques have trended towards lamination techniques over solid wood construction, without compromising on long-term stability and quality joinery.

All of our designs can be built to order, but you can also browse our selection of recently made items, available for purchase today.
